MightyVinyl.com is the labor of love of Mikel Orsborn. What began in the mid-to-late 70's with the purchase of rare "prog rock" items through Record Collector and Goldmine Magazine has today come to comprise nearly 40,000 individual items. The core of the original collection was Genesis, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, ELP, Peter Gabriel, and Mike Oldfield items. He began haunting thrift shops, used record stores, and estate sales searching for quality used vinyl and memorabilia. Working at Everybody's Record Co. in Seattle in the early 80's added a few thousand promotional posters, albums, and memorabilia to the burgeoning collection.
Over the ensuing years, the collection went from hobby to hobby business with the opening of Supper's Ready Collectibles in 1990. The name "MightyVinyl.com" was suggested by fellow Marillion fanatic Frans Keylard in 1997 and has proven to be a more memorable and user-friendly choice. Although Industrial Sales is his full-time "day job", the music and collectibles business remains his obsession. The collection that began in the 1970's with a few dozen items has today grown to over 40,000 pieces, with thousands of items added every year.
